Lavender Foal Syndrome
Our utmost concern, as it should be for any breeder, is the welfare of the horses as individuals and of the future of the breed as a whole. According to a study being done at Cornell University it is believed that LFS is a result of a recessive gene that must come from both dam and sire. If bred to a non-carrier each could certainly produce a live foal but that foal may then be a carrier. It not only perpetuates and spreads LFS further but can have a huge financial and emotional impact on those involved. It is something that we have been struggling with since the  birth of our first foal and is still greatly affecting us today.

Breaking News!!!! Cornell has in fact developed a test for LFS! They are currently awaiting publication and a test should be available to the public very soon. Fantastic news for Arabian horses, breeders and owners!

Many people do not know of LFS but the the number that do is growing.  Sadly, it's not something everyone has been willing to be open about in the past. This ultimately hurts the breed, the search for a test and many of the breeders that could have been warned and given the information needed before investing thousands of dollars into a fatal breeding mistake or purchase of a carrier or possible carrier, further spreading the problem.  Now, with a test on the horizon and knowledge of LFS spreading, we can all move forward in a positive direction.
