The Arabian horse is unsurpassed in beauty, intelligence, friendliness, hardiness and versatility. The blood of the Arabian traces back at least 3500 years to the ancient deserts of the middle east and runs through all other light horse breeds. Carefully and selectively bred for centuries by the Bedouins in the harshest desert enviroment only the best and strongest survived. Used in the tribal wars, their intelligence, stamina and spirit kept their masters alive.

The Bedouins believed the horse to be a gift from God. The Arabic Holy Scripts tell , “God took a handful of Southern Wind, created from it the horse and said: ‘Thy name will be Arabian, all the good is tied to thy forelock, thy trophy is on thy back; to thee I give to spread the meaning of life, in thy master I give thee thy friend; I distinguish thee from all other animals of pack; I give an ability to fly without wings either in charge or retreat.’ “

These highly prized horses were members of the family and shared the same tents and food as their masters. The Bedouins and their horses developed a unique bond that is still enjoyed by Arabian owners today. They thrive on human contact and are loving and devoted to their owners.

Though occasionally given as gifts, these horses were rarely parted with and could not be bought. In the early 1800’s Mohammed Ali The Great became obsessed with acquiring the very best Arabians....no matter the method or cost. He built ornate stables to house his magnificent collection. The care and management of this special herd was eventually taken over by his grandson Abbas Pasha and then by his son, Ali Pasha Sherif. These horses were the foundation for all Straight Egyptians.

Todays Straight Egyptians are a direct source to centuries old blood that has proven it’s genetic prepotency and predictability for producing the highly desirable characteristics that make up the Arabian “type”. Of the over 550,000 Arabians registered in the United States only about 3,500 are Straight Egyptian. Worldwide they number between 5,000 to 6,000.
